On September 24, 2018, the Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency Board of Commissioners (CRA) approved a negotiated development agreement between the CRA and Downtown Retail Associates, LLC (DRA) for a major mixed-use development on Block 55.
Block 55 is 3.44 acre of undeveloped real estate located in Overtown at 249 NW 6th Street, adjacent to downtown Miami. The proposed mixed use development consist of not less than 500 affordable and workforce housing units, not less than 250,000 rentable square feet of retail/ restaurant/office and entertainment uses along NW 2nd Avenue and a minimum of 1,000 parking spaces. National interest in the projects has come from Dave & Busters, LA Fitness, Aldi and Ross.
The new development is projected to create numerous construction jobs as well as permanent jobs for the local community. The development agreement also commits $18 million to the CRA to be reinvested back into the community. Michael Swerdlow, Managing Partner of DRA, also agreed to maintain Sawyers Walk, a public easement adjacent to the northern boundary of the development site.
