MIAMI, FL | July 1, 2019 – On June 27, 2019, the Southeast Overtown/ Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (“SEOPW CRA”) Board of Commissioners (“Board”) approved the Historic Overtown Culture and Entertainment District Master Plan. The vision of the plan is to create a distinct place that reclaims the role of Overtown in the history and culture of Miami. The plan will establish a compact, walkable community with access to local and regional transit and centralized parking and it will re-establish Overtown as Miami’s center for black culture, entertainment and entrepreneurship. The Plan will also enable new development, local investment, a place for businesses to grow and ring folks back to Overtown to live. The Historic Overtown Cultural and Entertainment District master plan was developed by Wills + Perkins, Inc. The SEOPW CRA adopted the 2018 Redevelopment Plan Update on September 24, 2018, which under the Project Area B, includes the Cultural and Entertainment District.
The Board also approved a resolution to begin construction of the SEOPW CRA Quadplex affordable housing project in the amount of $1.6 Million. The four-unit, three-story building located at 244 NW 16th Street, Miami, FL 33136, will consist of a one-bedroom unit on the ground floor, two units that are two-bedrooms and 2 ½ bath and one unit that is a three-bedroom 2 ½ bath on the second and third floors of the building. Each unit will have its own private parking and entrance as well as balconies on the second and third levels. The SEOPW CRA Quadplex is in direct response to the SEOPW CRA’s findings of a severe shortage of affordable housing to residents of low to moderate income.

The Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (“SEOPW CRA”) is one of three community redevelopment agencies within the municipal boundaries of the City of Miami. The SEOPW CRA was created in 1982 to promote and encourage the redevelopment of the Overtown and Park West communities (redevelopment area). The main objective of the SEOPW CRA is to spearhead new development and redevelopment efforts that accomplish beneficial revitalization within its boundaries. The SEOPW CRA’s main mission is to enhance the quality of life, improve the public health, safety, morals and welfare of the residents and stakeholders in the redevelopment area.
