Miami City Commission Chairman Keon Hardemon and the Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will host an Open House at Town Park Plaza South for residents to view the first set of completed homes renovated by the agency. The event will take place on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 1798 NW 5th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136. The Open House will showcase select completed models from the first phase of the major renovation and rehabilitation project.
Town Park Plaza South is a HUD Cooperative housing complex located in Overtown. Originally constructed in 1971, the aging buildings have suffered from longstanding deferred maintenance, structural, plumbing, electrical problems and life safety issues. In an effort to improve the quality of life for residents, the CRA Board of Commissioners approved a $13.5 million grant to Town Park Plaza South for the major renovation and rehabilitation project. The project entails the total gut rehabilitation of 116 town-house style units in 17 buildings. Upgrades to each unit include: the installation of new walls, flooring, bathrooms, kitchens, cabinets and stainless steel appliances. The project also includes the replacement of the plumbing, electrical systems and HVAC systems, hurricane impact-resistant windows, roofs, doors and common area improvements.
Construction on the Town Park Plaza South Rehabilitation project is being done by H.A. Contracting Corp. in partnership with the Town Park Plaza South Inc. Board of Directors and the CRA. Interior renovations began last June on the first five buildings (29 units).
