OVERTOWN BUSINESSES SHINED AS THEY BOUGHT OVERTOWN TO THE BLACK PEPPER FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL
Overtown businesses showcased their talents at the Black Pepper Food and Wine Festival. Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus was filled with festivalgoers who enjoyed the experience that three Overtown businesses provided. Alexis Brown of Social x Change created the Black Pepper Food Festival as a platform for Black business owners to share the spotlight and showcase what they have to offer.
The Southeast Overtown Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (SEOPW CRA) sponsored Jackson Bro’s Ice Cream, Now That’s a Wrap, and World Famous House of Mac to promote and support the great locations in Historic Overtown. Overtown is a historic community and being a “business in Overtown is unique because you’re a part of the rich history and culture.”- said Donovan Jackson, Jackson Bros Ice Cream.
“August was Black Business Month, but we hope you continue supporting these businesses throughout the year. Overtown businesses are unique and attract visitors from all over South Florida and beyond. It is our hope that you come to Historic Overtown to experience the great things that we have to offer.” – said James McQueen, The Executive Director, SEOPW CRA
Miami’s foodies landed at the Black Pepper Food and Wine Festival to indulge in Miami’s finest foods and merchandise, and Overtown’s businesses were at the forefront. World Famous House of Mac provided the cheesiest macaroni that festivalgoers raved over. Attendees stopped at Jackson Bros Ice Cream for an American classic and refreshing sweet tea. Now That’s a Wrap “an entity that has developed a unique and healthy eatery in the Overtown area” (Chef Haven, Now That’s a Wrap) served savory wraps to over 200 people. The second Black Pepper Food and Wine Festival was a hit as people enjoyed the music, food, and demonstrations.
